Cumbria Police have launched a campaign providing reassurance to people suffering domestic abuse that help is available in the county.

Research shows domestic abuse remains a vastly under-reported crime with victims often feeling they can’t speak out about it or that in doing so they put themselves or loved ones in greater danger.

Cumbria Constabulary work closely with a number of support agencies such as Barnardo’s to protect those at risk and support victims in recovering from their ordeals. But to do this the force says it needs victims to find the confidence to report crimes so police and other agencies can offer their expertise.

So far this year Cumbria Constabulary has received over 7,000 reports of domestic abuse of which nearly half are repeat victims.

Anyone who would like to report domestic abuse should contact Cumbria Police on 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
