Newcastle man arrested after sexual assault in Carlisle

A 30-year-old man from Newcastle has been arrested following a serious sexual assault in a car park in Carlisle.

It happened in the early hours of Saturday November 5, off Botchergate in the car park behind the Ibis hotel in Carlisle.

A man from Carlisle was arrested on Monday but has since been released without any further action.

The 30-year-old man from Newcastle has been released on bail.

Officers are appealing for information from anyone who was in the area between 1am and 5.30am and may have witnessed anything suspicious.
