People in the south of Scotland are being urged to take part in a consultation on plans for a major new pylon network.

Scottish Power Energy Networks had originally planned to build a new line of electricity pylons spanning right across Dumfries and Galloway.

It would have stretched for 109 miles from Auchencrosh in South Ayrshire, to Harker in Cumbria.

However, earlier this year the company decided the plans were no longer cost effective.

SPEN is now proposing replacing the pylon network running between Kendoon and Tongland in Galloway, a distance of less than 30 miles.

The company is holding public consultation exhibition events in November, in the areas that will be affected by the works.

  • Tuesday 1 November, 2pm – 8pm at Cairndale Hotel, English Street, Dumfries, DG1 2DF

  • Wednesday 2 November, 2pm – 8pm at Kirkcudbrigh Parish Church Hall, St Mary Street, Kirlcudbright, DG6 4AQ

  • Thursday 3 November, 2pm – 8pm at Mossdale Village Hall, Mossdale, DG7 2NF

  • Friday 4 November, 2pm – 8pm at New Galloway Town Hall, High Street, New Galloway, DG7 3RL

Residents will be able to contribute to the public consultation until 13 January 2017.
