The family of a Cumbrian man jailed in India for weapons offences are calling on the Prime Minister to help bring him home in time for Christmas.

John Armstrong and five other British anti-piracy guards were arrested three years ago, while on board American ship the Seaman Guard Ohio.

They spent six months in prison before being released on bail, and the charges against them were dropped in July 2014.

However, the Indian police challenged the decision, and in January 2016 the men were sentenced to five years in an Indian prison.

John's sister, Joanne, has just returned from visiting him. She's urged the Prime Minister to raise the men's case on a trade visit to India next month.

Theresa May has agreed to the request, and John's family say they hope he'll be released by Christmas.
