Uninsured drivers could have cars seized and destroyed in new police crackdown
Uninsured drivers are being warned their cars could be seized and destroyed in a new Cumbria Police crackdown.
The force is taking part in a national campaign this week to target and intercept vehicles flagged up on the Motor Insurers’ Bureau’s database as uninsured.
Police say if a vehicle is stopped and a driver cannot provide up-to-date motor insurance details, the vehicle will be seized and may be destroyed if insurance is not purchased within a set time limit.
Prosecuted drivers also face £300 fines and six penalty points on their licence.
