Borders council question Theresa May over Brexit effects
Scottish Borders Council has written to UK Prime Minister, Theresa May, with a list of questions it wants to be addressed following the decision to leave the European Union.
The letter raises issues around EU funding, the specific needs of the south of Scotland, access to markets and the position of EU nationals currently living and working in the Borders.
The letter also invites the Prime Minister to the Borders to discuss these points.
In the letter, Scottish Borders Council requests for freedom of movement and residence for present and future EU nationals in the UK.
The letter also requests assurance from the Prime Minister on the following points:
EU funding - how the loss of crucial funding and investment will impact on education and the agricultural sector.
Access to markets - ensuring that businesses continue to have access to the global markets as well as the Single European Market.
