Alston inpatient unit to re-open

Alston Community Hospital's inpatient unit is re-opening, the NHS has confirmed.

Due to a shortage of registered nurses Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) temporarily shut the unit last month and moved patients to Brampton Hospital.

But following the successful recruitment of additional staff, CPFT announced today the unit was re-opening.

CPFT say Alston's nurse-led treatment centre, which was operating on reduced hours, will also now return to a 24-hour service but that a high number of nursing vacancies still need filling at Cumbria's cottage hospitals.
