First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, arrived at Burnfoot Community School in Hawick, to emphasise the Scottish Government's commitment to improving attainment.

Burnfoot is one of two primary schools in the Scottish Borders taking part in the Scottish Attainment Challenge Primary Schools Programme - part of the £750million that the government intends to invest in an attainment fund. The other school is Kelloholm Primary.

Mrs Sturgeon confirmed that the next allocation of £2.8million from the Attainment Scotland Fund will be given to 46 primary schools - in which a significant number of pupils are from deprived areas.
