Bill Clinton's Lake District proposal... and rejection
Bill Clinton, former President of the United States, has spoken of his first marriage proposal to Hillary Clinton... in the Lake District.
In his hotly anticipated speech at the Democratic National Convention, the would-be 'first gentleman' said:
Of course, Ennerdale isn't actually a lake - it's officially classed as a 'water', and Bassenthwaite Lake is the only body of water in the Lake District with 'lake' in its title.
But its stunning landscapes mean the area is widely considered to be one of the most romantic in the UK.
Another famous face, Pippa Middleton, got engaged while walking in the Lake District two weeks ago.
And Beatle Paul McCartney proposed to Heather Mills during a short trip to the Sharrow Bay Hotel on the banks of Ullswater.
