People in the south Cumbrian village of Staveley say they can't wait two years for a bridge damaged by Storm Desmond to be rebuilt.
That's how long the council says it could take, so residents have taken matters into their own hands and had plans for a new bridge drawn up. They say they're prepared to go ahead with building it and send the council the bill.
Cumbria County Council has apologised for the disruption but says it's doing everything it can.
It plans to replace the bridge late next year, saying building work will cause even more disruption so it wants to wait until after the tourist season.
In the meantime, the council's taken down the old bridge and built a wall to protect the village from flood water.
The village is still cut in half with a complicated diversion and that looks set to remain until late 2017. Businesses say they may not be able to stay open if their loss of trade continues.
But businesses say they're not prepared to wait and have taken matters into their own hands.
