Swallows and Amazons at Derwent Water Regatta
Derwent Water is busy this weekend as many take to boats as part of King Pocky's Derwent Water Regatta, organised by the National Trust.
The original sailing dinghies used in the film Swallows and Amazons will re-create their iconic race on Derwentwater on Sunday 10 July at Crow Park, Keswick.
The two wooden dinghies sailed on Derwent Water last summer as part of the film shoot for the new adaptation of Arthur Ransome's classic children's book set in the Lake District. The film, coming to cinemas from 19 August, tells the tale of the Walker children's idyllic summer holiday there, sailing, camping and fishing.
Visitors will also have a chance to win tickets to the premiere of the new film, by dressing up as pirates and entering the Swallows and Amazons Best Dressed Pirate competition.
Ending the weekend on a thrilling high, adventurers can cheer on their favourite team, including one featuring the film's producer Nick Barton, in the Swallows and Amazons Boat Race - a race using the real boats; 'Swallow' and 'Amazon', that are featured in the film.
The National Trust is also marking the 150th anniversary of Beatrix Potter's birth with Jemima Puddleduck's waterplay area for under 5 year olds, with help from St Herbert's School, Keswick.
Plus there's a craft fair, traditional fairground rides and the Borrowdale 5k Trail Race will start from Crow Park on Sunday 10 July.
