Elderly walker rescued from Cheviot Hills

An elderly walker who suffered a broken ankle has thanked the Mountain Rescue team who came to his aid.

The man, 70, had spent 15 days walking the Pennine Way from Edale in the Peak District to Kirk Yetholm when he slipped and fell in a remote stretch of the Cheviot Hills, in Northumberland on July 9.

With bad weather and nightfall fast approaching, the walker alerted mountain rescue via radio and members of Border Search and Rescue Unit and Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue attended.
