EU Referendum: How the Border region voted

Four of the seven voting areas across in the ITV Border region voted to leave the European Union.

Although a majority across the south of Scotland wanted to remain, only one area of Cumbria wanted to stay within the EU.

A majority in Allerdale, Carlisle, Copeland and Carlisle all came out for Brexit. South Lakeland was the only Cumbrian exception.

Here are the results in detail:

Dumfries & Galloway:

  • Remain - 43,864 (53%)

  • Leave - 38,803 (47%)

Borders:

  • Remain 37,952 (58.5%)

  • Leave 26,962 (41.5%)

Allerdale:

  • Remain 22,429 (41%)

  • Leave 31,809 (59%)

Carlisle:

  • Remain 23,788 (40%)

  • Leave vote: 35,895 (60%)

Copeland:

  • Remain 14,419 (38%)

  • Leave 23,528 (62%)

Eden:

  • Remain 14,807 (47%)

  • Leave 16,911 (53%)

South Lakeland:

  • Remain 34,531 (53%)

  • Leave 30,800 (47%)
