New law makes 'legal highs' illegal
A new law has come into force to make so-called 'legal highs' illegal.
The Psychoactive Substances Act makes it an offence to produce, supply, and import or export the drugs for human consumption.
A range of criminal and civil sanctions have been introduced, including new powers for police, and sentences of up to seven years for offenders.
The introduction of the ban has been welcomed by Cumbria Constabulary.
