Moves are underway to create the first "Quiet Road" in the Scottish Borders with a 10mph speed limit.

The unclassified road which runs from Peel near Clovenfords to Innerleithen and runs onto the B709 has been identified as it is part of the National Cycle Route One scheme.

The road is popular with cyclists but is only busy with heavy traffic when used as a diversion route if there is an accident on the main A72 road.

The proposal emerged during a public consultation ahead of Scottish Borders Council's Executive meeting on Tuesday.

Tweeddale councillor Stuart Bell said the "Quiet Road" proposal was only a suggestion at this stage and there are no timescales, but he hopes a formal plan can be put in place.
