A national tourism campaign has been launched in Cumbria today.

The Chairman of VisitEngland, Lady Penelope Cobham, was in the Eden Valley to kick-start English Tourism Week which runs from tomorrow until 13 March.

She visited heritage sites including Dalemain House and Gardens, Lowther Castle and Brougham Castle to highlight the range of historic attractions on offer across the district.

In 2014 the Eden Valley, Ullswater and the North Pennines attracted four and a half million visitors who contributed more than £275million to the local economy.

Lady Cobham and the other guests were treated to a tour of Brougham Castle followed by a reception at Brougham Hall.
