Inspirational Nellie-Mai urges others to enter awards

An inspirational Cumbrian girl who won the 2015 WellChild Awards, is calling on others from the region to enter this year's event.

Nellie-Mai, 9, from Warcop near Appleby, was picked from hundreds of nominations from across the UK to win the Inspirational Child category last year.

She was born with a heart condition requiring a transplant, and has since battled with cancer, a stroke and ongoing epilepsy.

Despite not being expected to survive, Nellie-Mai has fought back bravely, and is well known for her cheeky sense of humour.

At last year's ceremony she met WellChild Royal Patron Prince Harry, and a host of other celebrities, and her mother says she's hoping other children from the region who deserve recognition will get involved this year:
