As quickly as the rain has disappeared, the snow has arrived.

The Galloway Mountain Rescue Team received two calls in two days from people who'd been caught out by the bad weather.

They are urging people to be prepared for the snowy conditions they will encounter on the hills.

For serious hill walkers who want to get out in the chilly weather, Ken McKenzie recommends a pair of basic spiked crampons. An ice pick can also help and will double up as a walking stick on the hill descent.

Remember to check the weather forecast before you head out for a walk on higher ground.
