Council's response to severe weather

It has been a stormy weekend in Cumbria, and the severe weather continued today, with some schools and roads closed.

Now, Cumbria County Council has revealed how the fire service and highways teams have been busy working to minimise damage in the county.

In the past 36-hours, the fire service has responded to 12 incidents:

Eight of the incidents were in the south of the county, while the remaining four were in the Carlisle and Eden areas.

Highways Maintenance Teams

The council's highways maintenance teams are continuing to clear the roads, to keep the county moving.

Twelve crews plus support staff are clearing debris caused by flooding, and have removed a number of trees blown down in high winds, as well as material washed on to the roads particularly in the west of the county.
