Men's Shed opens in Dumfries

A communal shed in which men can meet up, share hobbies and make friends has opened in Dumfries.

It was set up by local members of the Men's Sheds Association, which is spreading across the UK.

The community group began in Australia, and the aim is to give men a space to socialise, helping them to stay active and healthy.

The Dumfries shed is the fourth to open in Dumfries and Galloway, and a consultant from the local NHS says they can be particularly crucial in rural areas, where men who have retired, or been bereaved, can feel particularly lonely:
