Forgotten paintings by a talented and influential Cumbrian artist are on display in Carlisle... at the house in which he used to live.

Colin Allen could be classed as a Welsh Romantic Painter, but he taught a range of disciplines including drawing, painting and illustration to pupils such as Conrad Atkinson, Margaret Harrison and Percy Kelly.

He was educated at Cardiff College of Art and the Royal College of Art, and went on to travel in Spain, North Africa and Italy before settling in Carlisle.

Colin's family have now decided to open an exhibition showing his work, as well as family photographs and his letters:

The exhibition is taking place at Gallery Number Three in Carlisle, which is run by local artist Derek Eland.

Derek didn't realise Colin Allen had owned the house when he moved in, and he says helping put the exhibition together has been a "journey of discovery".
