A Cumbrian hammer thrower has hurled himself into the record books.

Nick Miller, who took silver at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, threw 77.55 metres at a competition in Sweden.

That's a centimetre further than the previous record - which had been held by Ron Bowden since May 1984.

Nick, who's still just 22, is a former Border Harrier, and grew up in Carlisle.

His previous personal best was 76.97 metres.

He's now hoping to be chosen for the World Championships in Beijing next month.
