The site in west Cumbria where Europe's biggest new nuclear power station is set to be built has been confirmed.

NuGen, the UK nuclear new-build developer, announced today that it has officially signed a contract with the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority for the Moorside site next to Sellafield.

The signing follows completion of studies at Moorside that deemed the site suitable for the construction of three reactors.

NuGen have paid an undisclosed sum to the NDA for the land and the contract was approved at a meeting in Tokyo today.

Site studies will continue at Moorside in the autumn and will feed in to detailed planning and site layout work.

Local MP for Copeland, Jamie Reed, said the boost in confidence the decision gave his constituency, was “enormous.”
