Primary schools across Dumfries and Galloway took part in the 'Frozen Dessert Challenge' as part of Scotland's Year of Food and Drink initiative.

Each school received a "Science on the Menu" kit containing a range of equipment and materials to deliver and support science education in primary schools.

The challenge was to use science to create a product that tasted great but also:

  • Used locally sourced ingredients

  • Included healthy, nutritious ingredients

  • Met specific diet requirements

  • Used free range or organic ingredients

  • Used recyclable packaging

  • Incorporated unusual flavour combinations.
