Sweets by science
Primary schools across Dumfries and Galloway took part in the 'Frozen Dessert Challenge' as part of Scotland's Year of Food and Drink initiative.
Each school received a "Science on the Menu" kit containing a range of equipment and materials to deliver and support science education in primary schools.
The challenge was to use science to create a product that tasted great but also:
Used locally sourced ingredients
Included healthy, nutritious ingredients
Met specific diet requirements
Used free range or organic ingredients
Used recyclable packaging
Incorporated unusual flavour combinations.
Out of the 12 schools that reached the final last week, Kirkgunzeon Primary was crowned the overall winner.
