North Cumbrians opening the door to burglaries
Cumbria Police are warning people in North Cumbria to take care, after dealing with a spate of insecure break-ins in the past month.
An insecure break-in is when the window, or door, of a property is left open, and used by someone to break in.
In May 2015:
Police say the high number of such incidents could be down to the good weather - sunshine means people are more likely to leave windows and doors open.
Cumbria Police are advising people in the region to follow these tips:
When leaving the house, make sure windows are shut
Lock the doors, if you leave the house, or go upstairs
Fit good locks on all points of access
Keep an eye - and a lock - on your garden shed and outdoors equipment, too
Secure any bicycles
