History made as new MP delivers maiden speech
History was made yesterday when the region's first female MP delivered her maiden speech in the House of Commons.
Sue Hayman was elected to represent Workington last month.
She opened her speech by paying tribute to her predecessor Sir Tony Cunningham, who retired this year after representing the constituency for 14 years.
The MP then discussed the need for west Cumbria to be included in the new "Northern Powerhouse", and for the region to support the devolution of more powers to Scotland.
