Barholm Castle: yours for £695,000
One of Dumfries and Galloway's historic buildings is up for sale - a castle that's thought to date back to the late fifteenth century.
But when John and Janet Brennan first saw Barholm Castle, in 1997, it was a ruin, on the point of collapse.
They spent two years completing the purchase of the castle, four years getting all of the appropriate planning permission, and another three years completing the restoration.
It cost them just £65,000, but they've now put it on the market for around £700,000.
As Barholm Castle is a Grade-A listed building, the Brennans worked with Historic Scotland throughout the restoration.
They say before the bought it, the castle had been on the point of collapse, and that the work they've carried out means they're likely to lose money overall, despite the dramatic increase in value.
