The launch of what's set to be one of the country's toughest endurance races takes place in Keswick today.

Lakesman will be the county's first on-road iron-distance triathlon of its kind.

Participants will swim 2.4 miles in Derwentwater, cycle 112 miles around West Cumbria, then run a full marathon, 26.2 miles, in the heart of the Lake District.

The event takes place in June 2016, and is being launched now to give the athletes time to prepare.

Hundreds of people are expected to enter, and the quickest are expected to finish the course in around 9.5 hours, with the slowest taking up to 17.5 hours.

The event is being organised by Allerdale Borough Council, Greenwich Leisure Ltd, CN Events and Sport in Action:
