Lonsdale Cinema stained glass window to be restored

The window is being painstakingly restored.

It's a fragment of Carlisle's history, that seemed destined for the scrapheap.

But now, a striking stained glass window, showing the sun setting over Carlisle Castle, is being lovingly restored.

Stained glass artist Alex Haynes is leading the work, but restoring all five panels isn't easy.

It's suffered years of neglect since the closure of the Lonsdale Cinema, it's original home.

But when it is finished, it should look something like the original, which we were lucky enough to film before the cinema was closed:

The restored window will be displayed at the new Old Fire Station arts centre.
