Radioactive sludge removed at Sellafield
Sellafield Ltd say the first removal of radioactive sludge marks a significant step in the overall clean up of the site.
The First Generation Magnox Storage Pond was built in the 1950s to store, cool and prepare used nuclear fuel for recycling into new fuel.
It urgently needs to be emptied of 1,500m3 of radioactive sludge lying at the bottom of the pond.
