Incredible footage of the moment a rally car skidded off the track and crashed into a lake has been released.

The dramatic video from inside the car shows the swerve before falling down a steep bank during the Rally Mexcio. The windscreen cracks and seconds later the driver and navigator are forced to climb out of the windows as water rushes inside.

MSport driver Ott Tanak suffered the spectacular crash on the opening day of the rally.

Both himself and his co-driver Raigo Mõlder managed to free themselves from their safety harnesses and swim to the edge of the lake before the car was dragged under water.

Despite the Ford Fiesta being submerged in the water for ten hours, the Msport mechanics managed to rebuild the whole car in just three hours.
