Samaritans raise awareness over festive period

A recent survey by the Samaritans revealed about 45% of men worry more at Christmas than any other time of year.

And it's men who are calling the helpline in increasing numbers:

Claire Shepherd knows more than most about the impact of suicide.

Her dad took his own life 15 years ago. Ever since Claire has found Christmas particularly difficult.

But 18 months ago she decided to set up an ethical trading business selling Christmas decorations made in her native South Africa.
