Yan tan tethera - Cumbria celebrates National Dialect Day
For the first time National Dialect Day has been held in Cumbria.
Speakers from all over the country came to Rydal Hall near Ambleside to hear discussions and take part in competitions in their own dialects.
The event, which lasted the whole weekend, was hosted by the Lakeland Dialect Society. It can trace words back to pre-Roman times and many from the early Scandinavian settlers.
Jean Scott-Smith is the Lakeland Dialect Society Secretary as well as a traditional dialect speaker.
