Special surprise for Sanquhar girl

An eleven year old girl who had to have half of her leg amputated after being diagnosed with bone cancer has been given a big surprise.

Sophie Livingstone was just five years old when she was diagnosed and the decision was made to amputate her right leg from the knee down.

That was almost six years ago and she is now use to getting about either on her wheelchair or using a prosthesis. However her garden had many uneven surfaces and loose gravel which made it difficult for her to get around.

Her papa contacted national children's charity WellChild who help children to get back to normal after cancer. They decided that they wanted to help out Sophie and have transformed her garden into a place where she can now play safely with the rest of her friends.

Sophie had given them an idea of what she wanted but she never knew she was getting a swing, which was an added surprise.

She was shown her new garden after school and was over the moon:

Later this year will mark Sophie's five year remission date- a huge milestone for all the family.
