Friday's weather warnings
Despite this morning's rain clearing the region, winds will remain very strong and gusty for the rest of the day. Showers will merge to longer spells of rain, bringing a further 25mm of rainfall by the end of the day.
The Met Office has a Yellow 'Be Aware' Warning in force for the whole region until 9pm this evening for gusts 50-60mph widely.
In the Amber Alert area ('Be Prepared'), which covers Cumbria, gusts could for a time peak above 70mph. The warning is in force until midnight.
In addition, a further warning for rain has been issued for Dumfries and Galloway until 9pm Friday evening for the expected rainfall. This is due to the potential for rainfall melting any lying snow over higher ground, bringing higher totals at lower levels and on already saturated ground.
The good news: Rain will turn more showery as the day turns into night. Winds will gradually ease and become lighter into the weekend.
Stay safe! x
