Fly tipping: what can you do?

There's been anger in Wetheral near Carlisle after fly tipping at a beauty spot. The rubbish was left close to St Cuthbert's Well which dates back to the 12th century. Carlisle City Council is investigating who left the rubbish. You can watch Hannah McNulty's report below.

  • If you see and fly-tipping in the Carlisle area and want to report it, you can phone the Environment Agency 24 hour helpline on 0800 807060 or Carlisle City Council on 01228 817200. If fly-tipping is found on a highway or obstruction it should be reported to the Cumbria Highways hotline on 0845 609 6609. It is up to the landowner to remove the fly-tipping from private land but the City Council will encourage the landowner to remove it and take action when necessary.
