Scottish Secretary Michael Moore has used a speech in Washington to highlight the importance of the borders cashmere industry.

Mr Moore is currently in the USA and Canada to promote Scotland and strengthen it's relationship with key trade and export markets.

Speaking at Georgetown University, the Borders MP said the Scottish cashmere industry, which has a reputation around the world for quality, is mostly based in his constituency.

Scottish cashmere exports have seen a growth in recent years.

Mr Moore said that it “demonstrates the strength of this industry."

At a separate business event in Washington, he also highlighted the vote of confidence given to the sector by Chanel, who recently acquired Barrie Knitwear in Hawick.
