RNLI - life saving thanks

A father and son who were rescued when when their yacht got into difficulty visited the Workington RNLI team to thank them for saving their lives.

Tim and Walter Burrow were on 'Never Satisfied' when they got caught out by changing weather conditions.

The engine failed on the yacht and they needed towing to the nearest harbour.

A daring rescue by members of the RNLI team then followed as the crew struggled to get on board the sticken vessel because the waves were so high.

Eventually a crew member managed to get on board and the boat was towed to the safety of Whitehaven harbour.

As a thank you to the team, Tim's daughter Ella and her friend Lauren Bates organised a sponsored dance to raise money for the charity.

Tim, from Penwortham near Preston, Lancashire, said: "Saying thank you just doesn't seem to cover the sense of gratitude I have for what the crew did for us that fateful afternoon.

"I know they will say "That's OK, it's what we are there for" and that the purpose of the RNLI charity is to give aid to people in difficulty at sea.

"But for me, that seems to fall short of recognising the volunteers who give their time freely, without question or judgement, and put their own safety or comfort last, setting everything else to one side at the drop of a hat to go out and help someone they don't know."
