Locomotives being sold to secure railway's future

The railway at Audley End

The owners of a half century old miniature railway in Saffron Walden are auctioning off nine of their locomotives in a bid to save the attraction.

The 1.5 mile long track at Audley End was opened in 1964 by the former owner of the estate Lord Braybrooke.

Now his daughters are selling a number of their engines to raise £180,000 and secure the railway's future.

Funds made from the auction at Dreweatts, who specialise in fine arts and private sales, will make significant enhancements to the visitor attraction.

It's hoped the money raised will go towards a new café and play equipment.
