Girl asleep in Jaywick caravan was lucky to survive arson attack

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire in Jaywick Credit: ITV News Anglia.

A 12-year-old girl is being treated for serious burns after the caravan she was sleeping in was set alight in Essex.

Firefighters were called to Humber Avenue in Jaywick just after 2am on Thursday, September 20.

Police said the victim was lucky to escape alive.

"This was a callous act where a young girl was seriously injured and narrowly escaped with her life. “We ask that witnesses, or anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area around the time of the incident, contact us, so that we can bring the person responsible for this crime to justice.”

A 15-year-old boy from Clacton was arrested on suspicion of arson and released on bail until October 18.
