Stephen Fry has revealed he is battling prostate cancer.

The Norfolk based actor, author and broadcaster has shared a video on his twitter page about his diagnosis and treatment.

"For the last 2 months I've been in the throes of a rather unwelcome and unexpected adventure...I'm sorry I haven't felt able to talk about it till now, but here I am explaining what has been going on."

Fry said that he had visited his doctor before Christmas for a flu jab and had a general check up at the same time.

The tests revealed he had higher than usual PSA levels, an indicator that there could be a problem with the prostate.

After further examination he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Fry underwent surgery to remove the prostate at the beginning of January. He said: "It all seemed to go pretty well, they took the prostate out, they took out 11 lymph nodes."

Fry described the cancer as an "aggressive little bugger" and said he had been recovering at home with the support of his family.

He said "As far has he knows it's all been got" and for the moment he said he was "fit and well".

He urged men "of a certain age" to get checked.
