Colchester remains a hung council but with fewer councillors

Both Conservative and Lib Dem councillors reduced Credit: ITV News Anglia

Colchester Borough Council remains with no party in overall control following Thursday's local elections.

The Conservatives and Liberal Democrats lost five seats each, with Labour gaining two after boundary changes reduced the total number of councillors overall by nine.

The council has been effectively hung since 1998 when the Liberal Democrats were last in power.

The town's long-serving Lib Dem MP Sir Bob Russell was ousting by the Conservatives in last year's General Election.
