Peterborough United midfielder Jack Collison has been forced to retire at the age of 27 after failing to recover from a knee injury.

The former Welsh international has been battling the injury since his early 20s and has never fully recovered.

Collison made his name at West Ham United, and also had a spell at Ipswich Town.

He will now continue his work as an academy coach at Posh.

"So I’m signing off for now. With a tear in my eye, but a huge smile on my face, I sit here optimistic. I’m excited for the next chapter and if it’s anything like the last I know it’s going to be one hell of a journey."
