Southend United centre-back Luke Prosser has joined Northampton Town on loan until the end of the season.

The 27-year-old has been with the Shrimpers since 2010, but has found first team opportunities harded to come by this season in League One.

Prosser's contract at Roots Hall expires in the summer.

"I'm really pleased to bring Luke in.

I have been an admirer of his for a while and this is another signing that will strengthen us at a key time in the season.

As James Collins did, Luke also won promotion from this level last season, and that knowledge and experience can only help us.

We have a really hectic schedule coming up, and to be able to add Luke's ability, knowhow and experience to the squad is a big boost and a huge help to the players who are already here and have done so well to get us to the position we are in."

Meanwhile, former Southend loan star Joe Pigott will spend the rest of the campaign at Luton Town.

Pigott has signed on loan from Charlton Athletic and helped Southend gain promotion from League Two last season.

“I’ve worked before Joe before. He’s an excellent young striker who has scored goals wherever he has been.

He’s been brought into the Club because he is the type of player we want here. He fits all of our criteria and adds competition to an area we are already very strong in."

– Nathan Jones, Luton Town manager

Elsewhere, Stevenage defender Jamie McCombe has left the club by mutual consent.
