A former Addenbrooke's nurse, who contracted Ebola while in Sierra Leone, has become the first person in the world to be treated with an experimental drug.

Anna Cross was successfully treated with the experimental Ebola drug MIL 77 at the Royal Free Hospital in London.

The 25-year-old worked at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge before going on to join the Army Reserves.

She then volunteered to help with the Ebola crisis in Sierra Leone, where she was taken ill.

Addenbrooke's say that they're "relieved" that she is now OK.

“We are very proud of the contribution that Anna has made in West Africa.

We are pleased and relieved that she has been successfully treated for Ebola by our NHS colleagues at the Royal Free and we are grateful to them.

There is always a place for Anna if she decides she wishes to return to work at Addenbrooke’s. We’d love to have her back on the wards.”
