Essex scientists develop artificial blood substitute

It's National Blood Week and there's a renewed drive to boost the region's blood supplies.

200,000 new donors are needed every year to keep up with demand in hospitals.

But now a team of scientists from the University of Essex in Colchester think they've found the solution by growing a long-lasting blood substitute.
