Abrupt end to Indian summer as the East gets battered by storms

Dozens of homes were evacuated today as flood alerts hit the East.

The coastline of Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex has been battered by high winds and huge waves as the Indian summer abruptly - and in some places violently - turned to autumn.

The strong winds caused some damage to buildings and brought disruption to rail, road and air services.
