M1 in Northamptonshire closed after body found in road

A man whose body was found on the M1 near Daventry has been named as 46-year-old Ashley Hayes from Shepherd's Bush, London.

The northbound carriageway was closed for a number of hours while forensic teams examined the scene.

"This may have been an accident or something more serious" say police. Adding they need to determine the circumstances which led to his death.

Officers are appealing for lorry drivers and other motorists who may have driven on this stretch of road between junction 16 and 18 to come forward.

Northamptonshire police say the man was hit several times.

Highways England say the road has now been cleared and all lanes are re-opened. It was affecting traffic between Junction 16 and 18.

Highways England said the "serious incident" closed the northbound carriageway between junction 16 near Northampton and junction 18 near Rugby.

"Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes and diversions will be in place," a police spokesperson said.

An investigation into how the body ended up in the road is now underway.
