Former Cambridge United manager Richard Money says that he's proud of his achievements at the club, but feels he should have been given more time.

The 60-year-old was sacked yesterday (November 2) following a run of poor results.

“Despite a run of unprecedented injuries at the start of this season the team remain just six points outside of a play off position. Once all of the key players are fit and available for selection I am positive that I would have achieved a top seven finish this season and I am therefore disappointed not to have been given the opportunity to achieve yet more success with this great football club.

I am incredibly proud of my achievements with Cambridge United. I have enjoyed living in a beautiful part of the country and I leave behind a very capable squad of players and a very strong dressing room.

I would like to thank the fans for sticking with the team and supporting me during the past three years and I take this opportunity to wish the Chairman, the CEO, the board, the players and everybody associated with the club nothing but good fortune going forward. It has been a privilege to have been part of the success of this great club over the past three years.”

Cambridge United has confirmed that manager Richard Money will be leaving the club after what it calls "the disappointing pattern of results over the last nine months".

In a statement the club thanks Money for his work there, but says the squad isn't currently achieving its potential. The Assistant Manager Joe Dunne will be taking training this week.

"The Club has taken this difficult decision due to the disappointing pattern of results over the last nine months and because the current squad is not showing consistent signs of achieving its potential. We want to place on record our sincere thanks to Richard, who has been instrumental in the club's progress over the last three years.

He led the team to success in the FA Trophy, promotion back to the Football League and a memorable run in the FA Cup last season which culminated in two games against Manchester United. Richard has achieved a special place in the history of Cambridge United Football Club and will always be warmly welcomed at the Abbey Stadium.

Assistant Manager, Joe Dunne, assisted by the other first team coaching staff, will take training this week as the team prepares for our FA Cup tie against Basingstoke at the Abbey Stadium on Saturday."
