Northampton Town have signed young Sheffield United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin on loan until January.

The 18-year-old will replace fellow forward Ivan Toney who left the Cobblers to join Premier League side Newcastle United earlier this week.

Calvert-Lewin can also play in midfield and recently signed a new three-year contract with the Blades.

“With Ivan gone we were obviously looking to bring in another striker and we’re delighted to have signed Dominic.

He’s very highly rated at Sheffield United, he’s a great kid and hopefully he can add to what we’ve already got at the top of the pitch.

We always look to unearth players that maybe a lot of people haven’t heard about and that’s what we’ve done with Dominic.

We like what we’ve seen of him so far, he’s enthusiastic and he’s got the ability.

We’re not a fan of short term loans but we’ve got Dominic until January and Sheffield United know he will get well looked after.

He’s still young but we feel we can help him develop and he will definitely be involved and it’s important that we have plenty of competition all over the pitch.”

Norwich City midfielder Jonny Howson has signed a new four-year contract with the club.

The 27-year-old has been a key figure since arriving from Leeds United in 2012 and has now played over 100 games for the Canaries.

Howson scored nine goals last season as Norwich regained their place in the Premier League.

"I'm really pleased, especially after last season going so well.

Since the manager has come in everyone knows how well we've done, and I'm excited to remain a part of that. That's not to say it's going to be simple, because you always have to keep working hard.

If everyone does that then I'm sure we'll have a good season."
